Flaccid Protests

This is a series of group protest performance organized around the theme of flaccidity.

The first protest took place in 2022 outside of Ditch Projects in Springfield, OR as part of my thesis exhibition. For this piece, performers are given signs and costumes and are asked to improvise the rest, creating their own chants and collectively deciding what to do next. The second iteration—which accompanied my exhibition Greased at Well Well Projects, in Portland OR in 2023—followed the same format with new protestors.

The most recent protest was a participatory event in which the audience was invited to join in. They were given signs and chants sheets, but also invited to bring their own interpretation. This performance was included in the 2024 Oregon Contemporary Artists’ Biennial.
